05 s197 vs. 01 Firehawk
Hey guys. I just had an interesting series of races with my buddy's 01 Firehawk (6 spd.). The mods on my car are Brenspeed 93 tune, C&L racer CAI, O/R X pipe, Pypes mid muffler, stock 3.55 gears, and yokohama S.Drive rear tires (275/40-17). From what he told me his car had a tune, modified LID (??), SLP long tube headers, O/R Y pipe, and electronic cutouts on 275 Goodyear Eagle F1s all around. The first race was from a dig at a red light and I got a fender on him at the launch, he pulled even as I shifted to 2nd, I pulled a fender at the top of second, he pulled even as I shifted to 3rd, and I slowly pulled a fender to triple digits where he shut it down. 2nd dig race was same results except I got more traction on the launch and kept a 1/2 car advantage. On the 3rd race we did a 50mph roll on the interstate and he yanked 1/2 car on me right away, I slowly gained back to a fender length through 3rd gear and held it all the way to the top of 3rd where we both shut down. We both agreed that it seemed his gears were a little longer than mine, but I would gain on him in the higher revs. It was fun and even though he is a Mustang hater he told me it was nice to have a good race. For the record, he was slowly pulling at higher speeds but not enough to mention unless we were racing to 150mph, lol.

It's an '01 that's probably been beaten to death like every other f-body for the last 10 years lol. If it was in perfect running order(like new shape) i can see different results.
For comparison I beat my friends 6spd T/A that just had a cat-back with just a CAI/tune even top end. It had like 75k on it
Since then, with the current mods, I've raced 3 other f-bodies. The first one was by a couple lengths but idk the mods, it seemed stockish (maybe a cat-back and a lid). The second one was my friends '99 auto, vert with flowmaster exhaust. It had like 90k on it. I blew the doors off of that thing. He ran it at the track later that month 13.9@102
I beat the third until second gear when he got traction(LS2 camaro)
Nice runs though, get some 4.10s!

Absolutely. I don't have any doubt that his car should be faster than mine. He is a pretty good driver, has owned the Firehawk since 2003, and he takes his C5 to the drag strip often so it's not like he was a noob in there grinding gears and missing shifts. It just seemed like his car was stronger in the mid rpm range and my car would slightly pull on his in the upper rpm. His car has 85k miles on it and I have 80k on mine so not much difference other than the physical age. I figured the roll race would've gotten ugly for me but we didn't run much over 100mph and he was starting to creep up my fender so he would've gotten by me eventually. We didn't run any more because we had made so much noise that we were paranoid of the cops, lol.

Sounds right to me considering ya'll didn't go over 100 mph. I've had pretty good luck hanging with mildly modded/bolton LS1s up to that speed in my previous S197. After that, they almost always seemed to pretty much walk away. The Mach did a much better job with them over 100 mph.
