You can never trust those old school hp measurements, they always "under rated" them for insurance reasons.

They rated engines in gross horsepower up until about 1975 I believe.

^ Negatory. Cars should have been rated by the net numbers by 1972. Not only did they change the way they rated them, they strated detuning a lot of cars as well.

Take it for what's worth, but one site states the 440 4V made 370 HP and 480 TQ in a '71 GTX.

You're right I stand corrected it was '72.

And right again, they started in with the emissions standards about that time which turned "muscle" cars into giant turd sandwiches. Chevy had some wonderful 350ci V8s in the mid 70s that put out a whopping 150 horsepower. lol

^ Yes sir, there is a 10-13 year span where not much was going on. Finally by '85 they started to slowly but surely breath life back into the pony cars, and they haven't stopped yet...

It's not like those old engines had much for accessories on them....power steering! That's a luxury!

The superbird was kinda ahead of it's time in a way.

I like the barracudas, chargers, challengers, etc. better than the GTX. But I think the GTX was probably more rare than those cars?
