Default 4.0 vs 98 z28

Last night I raced a 98 z28. I was out driving and I Saw this z28 parked in a parking lot and they waved for me to come in there - it was a couple guys I knew and they asked if I wanted to run so I said sure. His car is bone stock with the exception of some big fat rims and tires.
From a dig - neither of us hooked up well but with his bigger tires he caught traction a lot quicker then me and he beat me by about a car length. Wasn't too bad for me since I couldn't hook up.
From a 25 roll - I started pulling away from him right away and we shut it down around 80-90 with me around 1.5-2 cars ahead of him.
From a second 25 roll - he jumped on me a little do I just played catch up and stayed right behind him the whole race maybe 1 car (if that) behind
From 15 roll- again no traction for me and I also didn't hear his third honk so I just played catch up but he had me by a good three cars.
Overall I would say it was pretty dang even, whoever hit the gas first won. His car is a manual mine an automatic. This summer he's planning on doing some bolt ons so I'll have some catching up to do. I really have to fix my traction issues. I feel like off the line I would have had him

Nice run, I bet you suprise alot of people out there with the X charged 4.0.

I hope they release a kit for my car in the future sometime, arent those somewhat cheap compared to other kits?

Yeah im sure he was a little surprised i always knew those z28s were fast but I was actually stunned it was stock and that old and still that fast! I picked mine up really cheap ($1700 + shipping and included two gauges and all the gaskets I needed). Normally they go for around $2700 used, new $4200ish. I'm planning on getting the intercooler once I get my traction issues fixed

Do you have a locking diff or no?

Good run! I figured he might pull you some up top, but sounds like you guys were evenly matched. I'd say that if you get it to hook up, you'd get a good jump on him and probably be able to hold him off easily. If he starts doing bolt-ons, etc...you're going to have to step it up big time though. What other mods are available for your 4.0 that will help?

My rear is totally stock no t-lok or anything. I dont want to waste money on that when I know the 7.5 really isn't made to handle my power so I'm just holding out until I can get an 8.8.
I can intercool it with the "xtreme" upgrade for x charger. After that i guess it's just small things I'll probably do headers and get and new exhaust setup. I'm really not too sure what else after that though that will throw on extra horsepower. Just really small things that cost a lot for little gains :P hopefully by then I'll have all the mods to keep me planted instead of his spinning the tires

(edit* I use these forums on my iPhone and just read one of my posts and edited it. My phone changes words sometimes thinking I'm trying to type a different word for whatever reason so if I say a completely random word in the middle of a sentence that is why :P)
