On the street though, it "might" become a factor. If a 3.73 geared car is shifting into 5th a 3.31 geared car is going to be in the powerband in 4th and will start making up ground quickly. If it will catch it or not is simply a matter of how far they race.

True, each gear will lose some max MPH, but you're talking about ludicris speeds if you're running out of gear honestly. My Mach would still run 140+ MPH with 4.10s in 4th gear, and 5th pulled just like a non-O/D gear after the swap. So by that point, a 3.55 geared Mach would be behind playing catch up...which would never happen, trust me.
