Default You stick guys, What RPM are you launching at?

I'm just getting back into drag racing after 42 years. I have an S197 with a super charger putting down 450hp / 440 ft tq at the wheels. I have skinnies up front and MT 28 x 10.5 slicks. I just went to the track last weekend and best time was 12.01 at 116 mph.. I know that can be improved in a big way, thats why the launch control and not being a baby coming out of the gate.

You stick guys, what RPM are you launching at? I'm installing a launch control and just wondering what would be a good RPM to start at. I was thinking of 4500....

I'm running a 26in tire, launching anywhere from 5500-6200rpms, lol. But, we are in two totally different cars.

What were your previous 60's looking like? What rpm's are/were you leaving at? How about tire pressure, played around with that any? Pretty common questions, but it's good knowledge to have before folks can really help.

60 ft was like 1.780. RPM launch was about 4000 - 4500. Tire pressure was 20 lbs.

You can go A LOT lower than that tire pressure on 28" slicks. I would start at 15 and go down from there.

Yep, that could be a big reason for those 60's. I'd imagine you could be deep in the 1.6x ,at least, with your power. Lower that pressure and you'll probably raise the rpms a little to keep from bogging

So, setting my launch controller at 4500 is a good starting point or should I go higher?

I'm launching between 5K and 5.5K on a 26.5" bias ply tire on my manual trans 3.7 Mustang and have a best 60' of 1.72.

I would say set your launch RPM at 5K and as Sharad said lower your tire pressure to 15 pounds for starters. I've had my best luck at 13-14 pounds.

What rear gear do you have?

How are you doing your burnout?

It all depends on tire choice, track prep, and suspension setup. Takes some experimenting to find what works for your car.

I will say slicks make it MUCH easier than drag radials on a stick car. 4500 would be a decent starting point, then I would go up in 200 rpm increments until it stops bogging.

Yup, two step.. I have 4:10's and burn out is not too long, enough to smoke them. Here is a video of my second run. My best time that day was a 12.01 (which was my first run but I did not get a video that run). Weight is 3640 with me in it. Front sway bar is disconnected.
