Default Ran against my cousin's 69' Maverick (vids)

I made a bench racing thread a while back about racing my cousin's 69' Mav. Needless to say, it finally happened. This was mainly a before and after comparison as he has an old, tired, knocking motor. He has the rotating assembly ready and will go in shortly. After he is done we will go again to see the gains. Vids are for your enjoyment but sorry for the crappy quality

69' Mav
87' 5.0 motor with a drop in K&N filter and an E-cam, 3 speed, on my old 17 stock bullitt wheels

01' Bullitt
Bassani x-pipe, borla stingers, 4.10's, canned tune, K&N drop in filter, 5 speed

We got 4 runs while visiting Mexico, 3 rolls and 1 dig. The first race was a ~20-25mph to 105mph. This one was pretty close because I missed 3rd, baaadly. My cousin kind of caught me off guard but I was able to get it into 2nd in time. We got a good hit and I began to pull instantly through 2nd gear. Shifting into 3rd I just missed it, most likely nerves; he pulled on me and gained a fender while I slipped my B into 3rd. I regained my lead and began to walk him to the top of 4th @105mph.

We then snaked our way to find a good spot for a dig run. I honked it off. He didn't bring up his stall and I decided to roll into it (I have 1 DR on and 1 street radial, 4th of July incident, I'll explain later if wanted) I didn't spin and began to walk him pretty bad as I nailed all of my shifts. I let out @90mph or so with a good size lead.

We did 2 more 2nd gear rolls letting out to about 80-90ish with the same results, me pulling on him. Although in the 3rd race he kept up pretty well. I had to let out at some points because of some crazy bumps in the road. All in all we had some good fun. I'm expecting to get pulled once he does the rebuild which may lead me to do sometime to counter...

Good win crash. I'm honestly surprised the Maverick didn't run better. Motor must be really hurting. I had a comet with a 302 (maverick dress up for Mercury) and it ran strong. (Very light car). Congrats on the win. Are you helping with rebuild?

Thanks blue, I was actually nervous because I knew the weight differential should've been drastically in his favor. That motor definitely is hurting though. I have offered my services but he's a guy who likes to do stuff on his own.

Maxx, a good estimate for weight is 2900lb without him, but then he weighs 190lb and his buddy is 160lb. Pretty much negated hat advantage a bit. My car weighs ~3500lb with me in it.

Nice runs, Crash! Going to have to watch out for him down the road though. Something tells me he's going to be ready to get some payback once he rebuilds his engine, lol. Maybe you should answer back with a little giggle gas

Oh ya, I'm definitely in trouble after the rebuild. Gt40 heads, e303 cam, maybe his current intake, new rods a pistons, and from what he's telling me his goal is 400hp at the crank. With that set up is that attainable? I feel confident that I can out drag him from a dig and hold him off till 100mph or so but the rolls will be trouble. I'll most definitely need something and some nitrous would be the easiest way to counter his rebuild. Speaking of giggle gas, are you using that kit stone?

I don't think he'll reach that goal with those heads, but then again, with the right combo I'd say 330-340 at the crank. Which will work great in a light car like those. Keep us posted on the progress. Good kill by the way.
