I'm guessing it's the second gear synchro or that TSB about the loose pressure plate bolts.

I had the exact same problem with my car and I also had a Hurst shifter. I went to the track (1st time) and tried to shift into second (at high RPM's) and it was hard *** hell to engage. Ended up messing my synchros up. Have you thought about trying a new STS?
