Default 2013 Mustang GT vs 2014 SS Sedan

Several months ago we tracked both cars (over 100miles of track time) on a 2.5 mile road course & the SS dominated everywhere including the long straight where we were hitting 140+mph. Even with these results I felt my Mustang would be slightly quicker down the 1/4 mile.

We took our 2013 Mustang GT (auto) & 2014 SS Sedan down the 1/4 mile today. On every run the SS would beat the GT until the 1/8 mile then the GT would surpass the SS.

DA was 2200-2350, times below are actual times ran & have not been adjusted for DA.

Our GT was running 13.1-13.2 @108.x mph with 2.0-2.1 60ft. Summer P-Zeros 245F 275R
Our SS was running 13.3-13.4 @103x-105x with 2.003-2.0x 60ft. All Season DWS 245F 285R

Times were slower than I wanted but it was really hot today. As a reference a stock 2009 Challenger SRT8 was only running 13.5, 2015 Mustang EB was running 15.7-15.9, 2015 Mustang GT with dyno tune, cat back exhaust, cold air intake was running pretty consistent 13.4x

Is "dominated" the correct word to use about the road course ? Was it really that bad compared to a Chevy 4 door sedan? albeit an SS.

Congrats on the 1/4 mile though, gotta work on that 60 ft lol.

Thats some tough air to run in. GM cars don't like it one bit, seem to be more apt to pull timing. Not surprised the GT pulled up top. Little surprised the SS returned the favor so bad on the course though. Do you have any times from the road course by chance?

Dominated yes walked on no. My son & I took turns leading but I could catch up to or leave him anywhere on the track. Temp that day was in the 50s. We were the fastest in our group so they let us go 1st and we would end up double lapping most of the cars in our group during each session. If traffic wasn't too bad we were running 2.0x min laps on a 2.5 mile course (The Ridge in Washington) and this was our 1st time out so I wasn't pushed as hard as could.

The instructors had a C7 Corvette there that you could drive if you earned driver creed. One told me they like to see 3 full weekends of your driving minimum before handing over the keys. After my 2nd 20min session on day 1 they handed the C7 keys to me. What a beast! Guess my last 40 years of racing anything with wheels helped with my learning curve.

Now that I've upgraded the suspension, brakes & tires on my Mustang it should be a much closer race with my SS Sedan.

Met some nice fellow Mustang owners that were in our group. They did poke "in good fun" at my son for wearing a Chevy bowtie shirt while racing the Mustang but also gave him props for representing the capabilities of the Mustang. My son even admitted it's the most fun he's had on 4 wheels and it was in a FORD.

I wish, my SS Sedan is a 2014, the manuals didn't come out until 2015.

Sounds like a blast to run a road course, might be something I'll switch to as the 1/4 mile seems to be losing my interest after 30 + yrs. Plus, I have Road America just 40 min. away.

That would be bad ***. I bet those newer 6 speed auto's aren't bad either.

I like those new SS's a lot. My Charger was a TANK! Talk about floating around corners lol.. that beach rode like a whale.

We were going to buy a new purple Charger SRT8 until we drove the SS Sedan. The SRT8 was faster going straight but you really feel the weight in a turn. The SS drives a lot lighter than it actual is. Put the 6 speed auto in the SS in sport mode and it really wakes up the SS especially on a road course.

Not that it matters since they're both Tanks, but was it the 5 speed or the new 8 speed? The new 8 speeds are blistering fast and really makes use of all that torque. They go from running 12.7-12.8 stock down to like 12.1/12.2

I'd never road course and SRT unless it was an older one or a Challenger with a stick, even then, they're just not corner carvers without some sort of suspension work.

I always liked those new SS's.. real sharp looking. I don't know why, but they're just real slick looking.
