Knocking/creaking sound after suspension/gear install
#11
Will do!
That's what I was looking to hear.
Thanks! The joy of having an external microphone on the camera. That was just a run up to 3k RPMs, so I'll get a full blast one tomorrow.
I checked over the sphericals before the install and they looked spotless/shiny. I don't know how they could be worn out.
I had success replicating the noise more from up and down pushing, but I'll get both directions on video tomorrow (Hopefully with more light and with the camera/mic pointed at the spherical ends.

Now, about the noise... hmmm... I don't know man. That popping noise at the end of the video, say from around 1:02-1:18 does kinda sound like worn out sphericals, but if those LCAs are new, they would NOT be worn out. They might do that after several YEARS, but not after several hours.

A couple other questions, mostly related to weight savings:
What are these two black objects for? One feels like a big rubber block, maybe for sound dampening? Can I remove either?
Quad shocks can now be removed because of the new LCAs? (I'm assuming yes from the suspension sticky)
Is there any harm removing the big weight attached to the bottom of the axle housing?

The "Dogbone" is a vibration dampner and can safely be removed without harm in any way. May hear a bit more noise out back, but will be fine.
yes... yank the quads!
I like your "mess around" spot, as way too many use common streets instead.

Any idea about the two black boxes in post #14?

And now the video:

Does it still have the stock UCAs?
About the black boxes... there was a weight reduction thread on modulardepot.com about ten years ago... I believe they were listed there, but I don't remember the details.

I'm with you on this, something is not quite right.
Either 2 parts are interfering or something is loose. Sphericals do not make noise when new.
Maybe you could replicate the video with the camera pointing at different components? And different directions? It might take a few tries, but you should be able to find the culprit.
Good luck.

I agree with Old and what I was gonna say. My first thought, was that something is loose. Just get it up on a set of blocks and climb under there with a buddy moving it just like you are in the vid. Use a stethoscope or hollow tube up against different parts to isolate the location of noise.
You will find it, as it will not be mistakeable.
