Default svo head. regular 2.3 head.

I just bought a turbo coupe engine in hopes of building a sick head from it and using the head on my car to build with the engine i bought, not surprisingly the head has a huge crack. can i use a head from any other n/a turbo powered ford such as the lx mustang? if so what years and cars?

I do believe they have different port shapes. The SVO's are a "D" port and the NA are a "heart" port. I would not want to mix them myself.

The N/A "d-ports" have a heart shape which needs to be grinned out to a D shape.

Or you can grab a oval port (early carb 2.3's) and put the turbo valves in it.

YOU MUST USE THE TURBO VALVES, they are sodium filled to take the heat unlike the N/A ones

so i found a head from a 1982 or 1983 ranger in the junk yard for 50 bucks. Before i pull it, what exactly needs to be done to this head before being used besides valves springs and the cam?

It is a myth that you cant use a N/A head on a turbo car. I know plenty of guys/ myself being one of them that has done it. All while running faster then 11.99s. I didnt touch the chamber just replaced the valvetrain with good parts and swapped to a ranger roller cam. Just b/c the head yeilds higher compression why is it so bad? Most people think it is alot when it is only a minor change. Compression makes power on N/A motors so why cant it make power on turbo motors? Its rare to find a turbo head that isnt cracked, so people have to resort to other means. If you are smart and know what you are doing with timing, fuel, air you will be fine.

350 bucks for a head? damn makes me want to hunt for turbo heads as you can get them for less then 200 bucks.
