so i found a head from a 1982 or 1983 ranger in the junk yard for 50 bucks. Before i pull it, what exactly needs to be done to this head before being used besides valves springs and the cam?
Know this is old but my machine shop was able to get me a bone stock svo head bare for 350.00. If your insterested i could see if they could get another...
It is a myth that you cant use a N/A head on a turbo car. I know plenty of guys/ myself being one of them that has done it. All while running faster then 11.99s. I didnt touch the chamber just replaced the valvetrain with good parts and swapped to a ranger roller cam. Just b/c the head yeilds higher compression why is it so bad? Most people think it is alot when it is only a minor change. Compression makes power on N/A motors so why cant it make power on turbo motors? Its rare to find a turbo head that isnt cracked, so people have to resort to other means. If you are smart and know what you are doing with timing, fuel, air you will be fine.
350 bucks for a head? damn makes me want to hunt for turbo heads as you can get them for less then 200 bucks.
