Does any one know what the knock sensor is for and what happens when it goes bad?

It is to prevent detonation. Say from going lean, bad gas, lugging motor, Like if driving and hear valves rattle. It pulls timing from the engine. So if goes bad that will be what it does. Mine is disconnected. But make sure tune is good, plenty of fuel, etc. Or will have melted pistons.

So if you disconnect your knock sensor your car should still run? Do you know how can i check if the knock sensor is working properly?

Can be disconnected but if everything is not right. So make very sure everthing is up to new specs or better. The results are bad. Mine was disconnected by myself and I done too many modification, too much boost on a weak motor. This was the result. Notice section of piston missing and able to see the rings. Also there was chunks out of sides of cylinder wall. You have been warned. I have lowered my boost way down until I decide to buy a wideband.
