i say the an 01 cobra will take an lt1 camaro or trans am stock for stock in a 1/4 mile race. i raced a lt1 camaro with a 2000 mustang gt and beat it by .10 of a second. i had very little mods. so if a gt can do it i know an 01 cobra can. that day i ran 13.98 in the gt.

Stock for stock that statement is true. But a decent ls1 around here costs $8k at least and usually automatic. You can get a 96-98 cobra for around $6k. With less than $2k in mods and in my opinion the ls1 will see my tail lights everytime.
I raced an ls1 ta it had slp intake, maf, longtube headers, aftermarket y pipe, slp exhaust and a tune. We raced from a dig. At about 120-130 he beat me by 2 cars. I only have mufflers and cai. We both had passengers. Between my passenger and I we weigh at least 425 lbs. The 2 people in the ta were skinny so at most they weighed a total of 325 lbs. Ill take my comfortable interior over camaro or ta. Camaro SS and ta ws6 are sexy cars. If I were to only have a stock car it would be a ws6

Jus buy whatever year u really like and throw a small shot of nitrous on the car.... Then u beat whatever u need to beat and have a fun car to drive that u really like ;-) or get an older mustang that is cheaper on parts and insurance (talking about fox's here) and get it done !!!
