Many guys do swap in an auto. Auto is just faster. Stick is more fun, but slower.

Stick isn't always slower. Stock for Stock a 5 speed GT will run a faster 1/4 mi time than a stock Auto GT, but once you cross a certain power level, auto will be faster. If you are over 600rwhp in a 6 speed Cobra, when running down the track, even on slicks, you will spin at launch, and spin a little between each gear change, because of the harsh engagement of the clutch.

With an auto, it is possible that you won't spin at all. The torque converter absorbs much of the drivetrain shock, so the tires won't break loose. And a Stalled automatic can launch so much harder than a stick car. When it comes to 1/4 mile times, its all about the first 60ft, which is most affected by launch.

agreed, i just posted in 4.6 tech id rather run slightly slower and bang gears than keep my hands at 2 and 10 in an auto.
