4vs aren't cheap... for an aftermarket set of cams you're looking at ~$11-$1200, and
~$380 for valvesprings, not to mention you hit the wall @ ~ 390whp without boost on the 281 block.

i would go with the 98 and swap the heads if your budget allows.
99 cobras' had the teksid block too, it wasnt untill 01 when most all cobras had the WAP block.

ok, i just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into. I would find a Teksid block, build the bottom end accordingly, depending on what your goals are the stock bottom end "prefered" power level is ~420whp before breaking ****, if you don't plan on going F/I you will be fine with hyper-teuntic(spelling) pistons + rods, (stock.)
if you do go F/i go forged H beams and pistons, all stock cobra cranks are forged, Teksids also come out of the 93-98? Mecury Mark VIIIs but i don't think they have a forged crank. I would try to pick up some 99/01 heads + intake(with the coolant problem fixed or buy new ones.) your best best is probably SVTPerformance, i got stock 01 heads complete and a 100mile takeoff 01 intake for ~$1000 i think a little less, i feel like i got a deal on that though, im going to be running these untill i can save up and get some ported 03 heads with blower cams and upgraded valves/springs/retainers/ valvejob.

Both the 96-98 and the 99-01 Cobra bottom ends SUCK. Pretty much glass engines. The aluminum WAP block is crap from the 99-01's but the teksids from the 96-98 offer a much better foundation for some serious hp. But answer, both rotating assembly's are garbage, in the world of high hp. ****ty cast rods don't like to take abuse, and neither do the hypereutectic pistons...

for max hp durability the teksid is better but if you plan on running a really high hp car, either will work fine for just a street car with just a little extra kick.
and some 99 snakes did have a teksid block too.

yep pistons melt under any from of forced induction, and the cracked powder rods might as well be paper weights. we need more info on what your plan is, you putting in this motor to make a daily driver? or do u want something to go down the track
