Default Header Install

I have a 99 Cobra that I hust bought headers for and was wondering if anyone has done this by themselves, and how difficult of a project was it? I am just curious if its worth the hassle of doing it m,yself instead of having a shop do it.

just depends on your mechanical abilities, i installed some long tubes on my gt back in 03' when not a lot of people even had long tube and i was told to take it to a shop b/c i had little experience with stangs but it took me 2 days to get them in b/c i was trying to save the the egr tube but it ended up breaking anyways. if money "aint a thang" u could always pay a shop to do it. it also helps if you have access to a lift but not required. make sure u have plenty of tools as well.

i did mine myself, found it fairly easy just time consuming to make it was done right, and the gains are well worth the money imo

I was about to do mine but then said F it. I took it to my tuner and he installed them and he had to drop the whole k-member.

ive installed them on my 99 gt twice (bbk) and helped a friend install some on a 98 gt (mach) w/o dropping the k-member. if you had access to a lift and shop tools with help it would be easier but not required. just have to loosen up the motor mounts and tilt the engine to make room while you work on each side.

You have to drop the K-Member which is not that big of a deal. 6 Bolts hold it on. Motor Mount Knuts and 2 rack and pinion nuts. Hold the motor with a jack (Use a peice of wood between it and the oil pan.) If I were you, buy an aftermarket K member, aroud $225, to put back in as they weight less, improve suspension and give you more room the next time around.

dropping the k member without a lift is not a big deal at all, its actually 10 bolts 4 main long bolts, 2 smaller ones on each side in the back, and the 2 motor mount bolts, requires basic hand tools, doing it on the ground is just a PITA cause u have to get up and down, we tied a strap around the whole motor and somehow made it not interfer with the removel of the headers and held it up by an engine hoist, took around 10-14 hrs labor with a lift, also keep some money handy b/c your motor mounts could be shot, mine were i replaced them with poly ones.

What brand headers are you buying/bought? long tubes or shorty's?
