Default 4.6 dohc

im looking to swap a 4.6 dohc cobra motor into my 89 lx 5.0 what is the differences in the dohc motors between 99 and 2004, besides the obvious supercharger and hp ratings, are they pretty much the same internally, and are the blocks the same? Are the heads different, just curious, cause i can get the termi motor for 9000 dollars with tranny and fuel system ecu and wiring harness, but i can get a 99 motor with the fuel system ecu and harness for 3500, so if i just add the supercharger to 99 motor will it basically be the same as the 03 motors? Not wanting to sound dumb but just really curious the differences

i wouldnt say 100x better but better out of the box
99/01 snakes have an alum block and the 03/04 have an iron block
the cams are better for a blower application but not necisarly better.
03/04 have the forged piston, rods, crank and the 99/01 only have a forged crank.
both are 'C' heads but the 03/04 heads flow better stock but ported neither is better.
which engine is better for u? if you want to crank out >500whp and u cant redo an engine yourself, then the 03/04 is better. if money is an issue u can get the 99 cobra engine and slap a s/c on it for less but you are going to be limit to <500whp due to the weak pistons and rods.

nope way different... 03/04 cobras have forged internals... and 99/01 dont maybe just the crank like some one said but not sure about that one... and as far as I know the heads in 03/04 are not C heads.. any one correct me if I am wrong...

quick info. their was no 02 cobra in the states, a few were made and sent over seas but no 02 models here. 99/01 snakes use an alum block vs the iron block of the 03/04, so they are not the same. all mod cobras have a forged cranks and the heads from the 99/01 snake look the same as the 03/04, i have both sets. both are C heads but the 03/04 heads are suppose to flow better out of the box. when ported the only difference between to 2 would be the port job.

The 99-04 heads are all considered C heads, but the 99/01 Cobra heads are a bit different. The 03/04 Cobras and Mach's have the same heads. I believe it's the exhaust ports that were slightly altered on the newer heads, but they're all C heads.

My advice, split the difference and buy a brand new Aluminator motor from the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog.

Essentially, it's an 03/04 Cobra motor with an aluminum block, all forged internals, and available in either high compression N/A, or low compression S/C versions. The complete long block is in the 6k neighborhood, and comes with a 12 month/12k mile warranty.
