So, I went to Ford today to have my diff oil changed because of a mechanical churning noise in the rear end. The tech went for a ride with me and said that the sound is defiantely not due to oil, and guessed that it is most likely the pinion bearing. He also stated that this situation is very unusual and rarely ever happens with low miles, as he said the IRS is a very strong unit. But, he also added that sometimes failures happen.
Well, this sucks for me, because now I have to find a good place that will do this for a decent price. For wants $660 jut for labor to do the rear-end service, then the new bearings. Anyone have any ideas?
On a positive note, TSB 05-14-3 is good stuff. I bought those two parts today and no more creaking from the steering rack.

Something to think about is maybe time to put gears in your car. They have to pull everything out to replace the pinion bearing anyway. If you are mechanically inclined you can pull the center section out yourself and take it to someone to do the gears this will save allot of $

I hear ya. That is was ford said too. "if you want to change the gears, now is the time." But I don't know if I want to. Stock in the Cobra is 3.55 right? And as far as pulling out the center section, that's probably not a bad idea.

True. I have no idea. It may be "1" but I doubt it. I still need to order the SVT cert and window sticker. I am just about to start a thread about it...stand by...
