Default 98 Cobra idling question

Today i noticed that when I push in the clutch and apply the brake to slow down the idle seems to stay a little high, between 1200 and 1800
1800 was very rare. It was more like 1200 most of the time. Never really seemed to want to go down. Car was warm and it continued even after about a 20 min ride.
I am curious if this is a symptom of an exhaust leak. Like i mentioned in other threads I scrape absolutely everything and it has cause an exhaust leak at the headers before. I am afraid that might be the case again. I noticed it does sound a little "ticky" when i accelerate but hard to tell if that is just the long tubes or the exhaust leaking.
Also one last thing. If i want to put new gaskets and tighten up the header bolts etc.. Do i just do all of that from underneath or do I need to raise the motor?
A buddy told me he thought you had to raise the motor but i am guessing there is an easier way.
As always thanks to everybody !

Ok my son used to race motocross and when he had a leak we would spray something around the possible leak areas and if the bike revd up we knew there was a leak. What would be a good method of testing on a car? No indicator lights or anything come on. Would it be as easy as hearing it with the hood up?

Another possibility might be the fuel pump relay. I changed mine when I had had the same problem and the idle returned to normal. The relay will operate about 2 seconds after mashing the clutch and it puts a resistor in the fuel pump power to reduce pressure. I hear a distinctive click from the area of the glove box within a second or so then the idle goes down to about 750 or so. It is in plug 162 in the inner fender beside/behind the glovebox. I didn't have any codes, but my shop guy told me to swap it out before the IAC.

OK went out and check over everything on the motor. All the hoses etc..
Tightened everything up and when i cranked it, it seems ok now. Knock on wood.
I couldnt get out and drive it yet though because i had to get the kids to bed.
I will follow up after the drive into work tomorrow.
