I am REALLY interested in buying a Cobra so bad that it hurts but I only have $8000. I have been checking craigslist because I don't want to buy a car off of eBay (it's just not gonna happen unless its close) and people seem to be in love with their mustangs. Is it just me or is the asking price for a 1999-2001 Cobra a little high at $11,000? I found one for $8500 but it had over 100,000 miles on it (I'll be out of state for 3 weeks so I can't look at it anytime soon).

Is it realistic to try and talk these people asking $10,000 down to something a little less or am I the one who is dreaming?

Also, if you guys had a say, do you think a new edge Mustang GT can even compare to the N/A Cobra? Am I better off buying the cobra for so much more than the GT and is that extra ~50hp that noticeable?

Well hey, This is one of the local ones I was looking at on craigslist and after starting at $13,000 a month ago he lowered it to $12,000. and just yesterday he went down to $11,000. He's going off of KBB value which isn't accurate and I already told him $12,000 was too high. Guess he's getting desperate

Good luck on the search. I would not let mine go for under 11k. Terminators are still up at 20k, And the Machs are still up there too. Look what a good low mile used GT's of the same year go for. Why would someone want to sell their excellent condition low mile Cobra for the same price. 10k to 12k seem to be the going prices for a good one nowadays. As for the E-Bay seller getting desperate, maybe he needs money right away.

im picking up my 03 never pullied, clean title, 74k vert this weekend for 15k...... they are out there, you just need to be patient and not jump on the first one you find

What other 300+ horse, low production, special edition, low mileage car with all the options are you going to find for less is my only question? Correct me if im wrong but there were only like 7,000 coupe/convertibles combined made for 01. When I paid the note off on mine the bank value on the car was listed near 15k. As for differences between the GT and the cobra its night and day. Granted my cobra had normal bolt ons and my gt only had full exhaust.

and mustangman I hope that car turns out well for you that's a hell of a deal. Hopefully it was well taken care of, I always have reservations about used cars with forced induction. Guy I was talking to a couple months ago said his friend bought an 04 cobra for 18k with 60k miles only to find out afterward the car had lived a hard life and fed a steady diet of No2. Damaged rings was the result leading to a new engine.

You can pick up a nice 96-98 cobra with that budget instead of a 99 or 01, power difference is minimal and youll get a SRA instead of IRS

I paid 3100 for my 99 Cobra with a new forged short block and some other goodies on it Pro motion t45, + the stock trans and stock short block. exhaust, gears, 03 cobra rear and few other parts with it.
BUT the car needs paint and very mild body work and both bumpers are junk. But I work for a bodyshop and have been doing this stuff for over 20 years so it works out for me.
I also need to get the other owner wiped off of it. He was a mechanic in the Navy and was getting shipped out. But with the stuff I have seen on the car it is a wounder our ships even float. HACKS drive me nuts.
I have seen a few in our area gone for 7000 range but they had higher miles on them.

Cobras are expensive simply because they are highly sought after. Just watch out for this guy lol
