Default Good Cruizin' Roads

I'll be getting home from Afghanistan before too long and a few buddies and I are looking to do some day road trips around Central Texas. Were looking for some good roads within 2-3 hours of the Killeen/Fort Hood area during the March-July time frame.

I've been on 317/6/22 W/NW of Waco, the Austin bypass, 53/485/6 to College Station and 281/29/16 to Fredericksburg.

Any suggestions....?

You can't go wrong with the Hill Country. Fredericksburg would make a great trip, lots,of good food in that area too. Along the Llano river is a pretty neat area as well.

Willow City Loop in the spring when the Bluebonnets are out. From Marble Falls to Lake Travis. HWY 16 from Fredricksburg to Bandera. Devils Backbone I believe it's by Wimberly.
Just about anywhere in the Hill Country. I'm in Goldthwaite, NW of Killeen and might meet up in Lampasas if I'm off and you don't mind another Mustang tagging along.
THANKS for your service!

First and foremost, THANKS FOR SERVING! There's a trio of roads start outside of Bandera called the Twisted Sisters. Mostly documented by motorcycle websites. Over 100 miles combined, not counting the trip from Ft. Hood. Stay safe and look forward to seeing you on the road!

Later,

I was going to say 281...you've already got it. Start at Hard 8 Bbq in Stephenville and head on south.
