if Ford is going to the trouble of putting an independent rear suspension in the Mustang I hope it makes more of a difference than in the Camaro! I drove the Camaro and Challenger expecting to see a great deal of improvement in the ride compared to the Mustang and it was not there. I hope what makes a Mustang great is not lost to somehow please the world wide market. If I had a supercharged 5.0L engine in my '08 I'm not sure I'd ever want a newer Mustang. I still like the older styling!

+1. I was on the fence about waiting, but I decided to go for what I knew I liked vs what may or may not be on the way.

Getting 15 inches shorter, 6.5 inches narrower. The back seat is allready insanely small, are they converting it to a 2 seater?
Is this 400 lbs lighter with an IRS?
how is this even going to work
Picture this... The current mustang is 187.6 inches in length and 73.8 inches in width.

A Ford Probe is 179 inches in length and 69.8 inches in width.

187.6 - 15 = 172.6in length
73.8 - 6.5 = 67.3in width

So you're telling me this new mustang is going to be smaller than a ford probe? No Thank You!

289 here and I have both a 13 and 2000, I fit comfortably in the 13, the 2000, let us just say I know how my belt feels.

I was eager for a 50th (2015) but the more I read and hear the more thankful I am that I picked up another 13. Final decision will be once I actually sit inside one.

It's a welcome change in my book. The s197 interior feels nice and spacious to me. I like it, but I wouldn't mind it being a little smaller if the car was 400lb lighter.

I hope your right. I currently own a 2011 Camaro SS. Weighs almost 2 tons. It's huge but the back seat is every bit as useless as the back seat in my SN95. At least the next Mustang will be a far superior performer due to that weight loss.

What I love most about my '09 is that it's a no-compromise vehicle for me. I have a big-A$$ trunk and plenty or arm, leg, shoulder, and head room. In addition to the fact that I have, on multiple occasions had 4 grown guys in the car at once for around-town trips. Really nice to take three of your buddies with you for lunch in a FUN car. Like I told my wife the other day, picture taking the entire center arm rest out and that's the amount of width we're talking about losing. Not good. Length-wise, I assume the trunk will be nearly Miata-sized to get to a 15 inch shorter car. This really irks me. The Mustang does not need to be the size of a Scion/BRZ. If this car ends up being that small, I may end up buying a Challenger next. At least then I would have enough room to go fast and take long 2000 mile road trips with actual luggage. Annoyed.

Trimming 400 pounds of the new Mustang is way more important than having an IRS.
You guys and your hard on about independent rear are making me laugh...
I know it's a bit off topic on this thread but someone always come up with mentioning it.
You won't see the full potential of the IRS until you get the car on a race track with slicks and hipo suspension.
On the streets, it's just bragging rights.
As it is, a current GT with Brembos and Koni shocks will spank the BMW M3 on the road course for about half the price and without the IRS.
Shaving 400 pounds of the current Mustang would put that car in a totally different category...
If the new platform is indeed that lighter, it's an instant winner. Independent rear or not.

Sad that Ford is making such a poor choice, not everyone is 5'11" and 150 lbs. Though I still will like to see what the interior dimensions are. As for me I have an 06 and was impressed with the interior space and the trunk space.
