And there JZ is where my money is going....maybe. I knew holding out would be worthwhile.

My hunch is that if we hold out for one more year you'll see an eco-boosted version of this FPC which will bring in the next iteration of the Mach 1.

Just a hunch. Ford has not played all its cards yet on this chapter. In all likely hood... The Chevy camp let out a unanimous OMG and crapped their pants when this news hit.

This is the blue oval saying..."BRING IT" to the bow ties'.

And obviously completely ignoring the completely played out likes of the Hellcat. Sort of like a been there and done that move... Anyone can slap a Supercharger on a big V-8... That was proven with the Cobra GT 500.

Radical....like showing up late for the party to steal the show.

BoOm...

like I said, I was a doubter up until about two weeks ago.

I usually try to admit it when I'm wrong.

These are exciting times to be a car enthusiast. I'm curious to see what the GT350 is going to weigh and what the torque curve is on that 5.2L. Time will tell if it's going to give the Z28 a run.

I expect it'll be a lot further up in the rev band. It's only going to have a little more peak torque than the 5.0 so by necessity the curve is going to be pushed up higher.

If they've designed a flat plane crank V8 for this then would it not make sense for them to use that design and expand it as their top model engine? Raptor gets this and the twin turbo 6, Supercharged and roided out for the GT500, swap kit for my Mom's Taurus...what?

You get a flat plan! He gets a flat plane! EVERYBODY GETS A FLAT PLANE CRANK!

I should probably be more curious about other things but my first question is what are they doing with the exhaust? I mean, other flat crank V8's get pretty twisty.

And Ferrari - being the king of the flat plane V8.

Looks awesome. I certainly hope they take each item as seriously for performance as GM has done. Engine is no brainer with Ford.

Weight distribution, actual researched and serious track proven suspension upgrade package that is specific for handling and braking like the Z28.

Or will it be another really fast straight line car that when it comes to the figure eight, the slalom, road courses, steering input, and hard fast corners, is still considered slower and front heavy compared to the competition, as has been the case with every new Mustang.

I will certainly buy the car if they can pull it off, and happily let my lighter, faster, less front heavy current 06' car go. Erik

Not just a second hand info blog, but actual confirmation directly from the horse's mouth:

https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...d-returns.html

FoMoCo in their info release on Monday 17th November, the GT350 will indeed have a flatplane crankshaft, which many hardcore Mustang fans thought would never be done.
I am curious how Ford engineered the 5.2L to mitigate the vibrations inherent to flatplane crankshafts. I assume they are doing so by means of counterweight and possibly to some degree, the weight of the pistons and conrods.
Due to engine weight considerations and the desire to not include anymore complexity to the rotating assembly, I doubt Ford will go the route of adding balancing shafts. See this link: http://www.projectm71.com/Cross_FlatPlane.htm

I also assume the 5.2L engine will retain the same conrod length of the current Coyote and obtain the additional 200cc by means of a larger bore. I am curious how the GT350 rotating assembly will be designed to control vibrations from this factor as well.
Of course, if the GT350's 5.2L engine goes with a shorter stroke and even larger bore, that would answer my question. But if the 5.2L is a Modular, which I believe it will be, then there is only so much bore diameter the Modular 100mm bore spacings can accept.
