Sync 3

Sync 3
Being a technology geek, I'm kind of disappointed that by ordering a 2015 I'll be getting the Sync 2 system rather than the Sync 3...
Is there any way to upgrade this in the future when Sync 3 comes out?
If not, is it possible to swap out this system for something like an Apple CarPlay system even though the Sync system controls some stuff like HVAC and so on?
Thoughts?

not easily; they've said that the underlying hardware is quite different so it's not just a software load. I don't know whether you'll be able to swap modules after the fact.
as for swapping it out for aftermarket, sure it's possible but you're going to be tossing out a hell of a lot. SYNC 2 does a lot, everything but the radio itself is built into that display assembly. climate controls should still work w/o the SYNC module present, but you'll obviously lose bluetooth, navigation, and media inputs (irrelevant since you'd be putting something in which had those anyway.) I'd wait and see what the aftermarket cooks up for this car.

after the fiasco of a launch MyFord Touch had, I'm pretty sure they're not going to release SYNC 3 until they're sure it's damn good and ready.

honestly, SYNC Gen 2 is fine (now.) it was a disaster when it launched for 2011. IMO it certainly is better than CUE, or that execrable disaster "Enform" that Lexus uses, or anything used by any German carmaker. I drove a Mercedes-Benz GLA250 last week; the multimedia system was bonkers. not only does it look like they just said "eh, f*ck it" and glued a tablet onto the top of the center stack, it wasn't even a touch screen. you had to use this stupid remote **** to operate the horrible user interface.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I don't have any issues with Sync, other than occasional voice commands that are misunderstood. But I'm not as tech savvy as you younger guys. After all, I'm still lamenting the elimination of DOS vs. Windows. Haha (or LOL as you say now)!
