Why do the 2015/2016s even have back seats?

Default Why do the 2015/2016s even have back seats?

Felt this deserved a new thread from my last one...

I had concerns about the "auto back" feature for the driver's seat, where the seat goes all the way back upon shutting off the car. It was incredibly rare in my 2013 GT, but there's an off-chance that I could have a passenger back there and they would certainly get "crushed" by my seat going all the way back. Today I decided to physically check out the back just to see what the seats felt like (they look super comfy haha )... My head hits the glass and I'm only 5'10. Seriously, I cannot sit upright in the back seat and I'm average height for an American male! It's almost comical that it has rear seats considering. I guess small children or girls under 5'5 will be cozy back there (my gf thought the rear seats were super comfortable, but she's 5'4 and 95lbs) but forget about driving with more than a single male friend haha

This isn't me complaining, by the way, just sharing something I found comical. Guess I have a way out of driving when me and my friends are deciding who's driving that night! How much does that rear bench weigh? May as well rip it out and lower my times haha

Default Why the 2015/2016s have back seats?

So you can damage the neck of anyone 6' or over! The salesman I bought mine from is still threatening to sue me because he had to sit in the back seat because my wife was in the passenger seat. I'm thinking of removing the back seats & having an insulated vinyl tonneau like cover made. It would cut down on weight, & create a large package area. I could haul firewood or car parts back there.... or maybe not! The back seat is only good for my grandkids, & I don't want their shoe marks back there, so they'll have to go in the Toyota Sienna with my wife!

Bc then it would be a two seater and the cost would then go up by 10K.

It would then place it in the sports car claasification, removing it from the coupe classification.

The mustang has never really had a practical rear seat.

The thread title is hyperbolic guys

While previous Mustang year/body style rear seats have not had much leg room, you could still fit adults back there without issue. My previous cars were all Mustangs and could fit people (grown adults) in the back well enough; a 1990 LX Convertible, a 2001 GT Convertible, a 2013 GT Coupe. The 2013 even had rear headrests in the back and had the "most legroom" yet (friends would compliment how much more comfortable the back of my 2013 was compared to my 2001). This year (2015/2016) the rear seats are more-or-less there for show with the non-existent head room/clearance; it's the first year they are truly impractical.

Again, this isn't a complaining/whining thread, it's just an "LOL" thread. It's like Ford just threw in rear seats with this model without checking the head clearance from the back window. Seriously, if you own multiple Mustangs and have a 2015/2016 in your collection, check out the back and compare, it honestly made me start laughing as soon as my head hit the rear window.

BTW, serious question, is the GT350R not considered a coupe since the rear seats are ripped out?

No its still a coupe. Its still based off the standard 4 passenger mustang. Just because they stripped the rear seats doesnt change that.

Yes, it's tight back there. My 20 year old daughter rides back there from time to time when she is home from college. She ducks a little, mostly because she really wanted Dad to get the car. Long trips in the back are a nope unless you are under 5' 7". On the other hand, the front has all kinds of room. It's great for trips with 2 people.

believe it or not, the rear seat is actually comfortable to sit in. it's just getting in and out of it is the problem. Oh, and woe be you if you're sitting behind someone more than 6' tall. I'm only 5'7" so I'd had rear-seat passengers in my S197 multiple times.
