2015 mustang gt vs 1971 mustang 429 cj

To be clear: I'm not hating on the old Mustangs. They're incredible cars. My parents have a 67 GT with a 390. They've had it since ~1969 and are just about finished with a complete restoration. I can't wait to see it. I'd love to own a 66 fastback with a 289. But not to race or anything. Just to admire it and take it on cruises through back roads.
Technology has moved really far in the span of time from when the classic Mustangs were built to today. The only advantage the older cars really have is weight and even there it's not enough.
Enjoy the '71 for what is and enjoy the new Mustang for what it is.

One of my dream cars is a 1968 Shelby GT500, not for it to be fast (though I'd like to "mod" it to be in the low-mid 13s at most ) but mainly just to drive it. If you want an old car that could (kinda) compete today you have to look at the old super cars like the Ford GT40 MKII-IV... I'd kill for one of those Ferrari killers

I've built classic cars for decades! Whether admitted or not most like to be "SEEN" in an old classic especially if you had one in high school. Me too, but if when I drive my 2016 GT it's so obvious old classics can't compete with today's cars. That's why some will pay the big money to put a classic car body on a modern frame with a modern driveline. If I was a billionaire I have a collection of classics to look at & maybe drive one to a cruise night once in a while.... but my main ride would be a new GT! I'm getting too old to build another classic car & enjoy with its old car problems, so I'll take a 2016 GT! I'm a weirdo that would rather have a perfect restoration to a with the "patina" of dents, rust & faded paint! Give me a break! When I look in the mirror at 74 my face has the wonderful patina of age, but I rather be 20 years old! I park my GT away from the crowd in parking lots & keep it in the garage to avoid that wonderful "patina".... but that's just me! "Remember the money rule that says when you sell a beat up classic... it's "Patina", but when you buy one remember its "scratches, rust & dents!"

The hell with patina. When I was a kid that was all I could afford. Now I want perfect and shiny. I drove cars in primer because I wasn't smart enough or had the price to get them painted. Now people pay extra for matte or "denim" wtf is up with that? Just park your ride outside and don't wash it. Instant matte.
