Default Manual MT82 - Love it or Hate it?

Do you have a manual MT82? If so give me your thoughts / any issues / wins you've had with it.

I just picked up a new 16 GTPP and will admit I'm still getting used to this tranny, my 5th stang, 3 fox's and a s197 before the 16, all manuals.

This tranny definitely has a distinct THUD at times (going into first at a light mainly) that doesn't really bother me though and most every shift is like butter.

However, going into 3rd and 5th sometimes I def get some feedback / noise. Not grinding, more scyrno's I think, not real sure?

Seems if I double clutch 3rd it never happens, but I feel like a grandma when I have to do that.

Probably only happened a handful of times but still bugs me. I want to be confident when I decide to bang through the gears, and with only 500 miles on this car long term durability is a concern when it comes to the tranny.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Should I be concerned, make a report to Ford? Or roll with it until it becomes an issue? Any tips I should try when shifting?

Appreciate the thoughts and replies. Thanks.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have a very slight vibration felt in the shifter while in 4th. only feel it in the shifter with my hand slightly resting on it. I do hear a slight whine in 3rd and 5th. Otherwise I haven't noticed anything weird.

As someone thats seriously considering a S550 Manual, I've VERRRY interested in the lingering "issues" with the MT82 tranny.

Anyone else?

I've noticed the "Thud" shifting into first as well. Not consistent but it seems when the clutch is firmly pressed all the way to the floorboard it doesn't happen. I've also noticed shifting into third isn't always smooth when the car is cold.

the "thud" people hear is cause by the play being taken up on output side of the trans and driveshaft when the still spinning input shaft is connected to the output shaft by selecting a gear. this is normal, and has been around since the 3650 in the new edge.

I've heard of the "thud" being eliminated with these bushings

I've also been thinking about a few more upgrades just to tighten everything up.

Wondering in anyone has installed a short throw, if so what kind and how do you like it?

I'm leaning towards the Ford short throw right now.

Also looking at the blowfish shifter bracket

And a whiteline insert

Would love to know if anyone has installed any of these

I've put 33,000 on my MT82 in my 2011 GT with no issues at all.

The BF bracket makes the shifter feel more solid, predictable and the Whiteline helps with shifting a little, but they don't eliminate the thud or all of the notchiness. I just installed the Steeda bushings a couple of weeks ago and it helps with the thud. It is still there slightly, but better than before and best of all the Steeda inserts firm up the handling and makes the rear suspension more in tune with the front IMO.

If I had things to do over I would be compelled to look at the trans mounted Barton shifter as an option, and no regrets with the Steeda IRS bushing inserts.
