I just purchased a 2016 GT and it has the annoying 1-4th skip shift programmed in to the transmission and I want to disable this.
Can anyone explain how to disable it?

not without a programmer from the aftermarket. not sure why you would want to disable it, it skips the gears because the ratios are so close, and sometimes the extra gear isnt needed.

I had this on my '12 SS Camaro.Besides being a total pain in the *** there were times it was dangerous.I added a skip shft eliminator right away and all was good. try online to see if one is available for the GT.

it skips the gears because that gets them better numbers when they do the fuel economy certification tests.

it skips the gears that have very close ratios depending on engine load, 3rd and 4th are .38 apart, and 5th/6th are .18 apart, this isnt the fast and the furious, shifting a gear to gain a 100 rpm difference in rpm is pointless, thus skipped gears.

he's not talking about an automatic transmission. the 6 speed manual has a gate which forces you to shift directly from 1st gear to 4th gear under certain circumstances. coincidentally, those circumstances line up pretty closely with the drive cycles the EPA defines for the fuel economy certification tests.

i can find no mention of a skip feature on the mt82 after the 2012 model year, checked the service manual and also, no internals listed that would facilitate a skip shift feature. it seems that they did away with that after 2012.
