The sync 3 upgrade will be free for all 2016 later this year, the scheduled time frame for the upgrades to begin for 2016 models is Sept. currently.

Thanks for your interest in SYNC 3! The upgrade to include Apple CarPlay requires a hardware installation by your local Ford dealership, and fees may apply. Android Auto will be provided as a SYNC software update which can be downloaded directly from your SYNC Owner account. For 2016 SYNC 3-equipped vehicles, both CarPlay and Android Auto will be released later this year, so stay tuned!

Last I checked, all 2016 mustangs already had Apple carplay, and the Sept 2016 upgrade was for Google CarPlay.

I stand corrected. I dont care for the apple play, all I care for is Android.
