I read somewhere the new Z28 is going to be expensive. I would guess it will be $70,000... so not a car anyone I know will be driving to the track or driving period.

You miss the point of the thread. The point is GM can run circles around Ford on a track when it comes to factory cars.


Cars like the Corvette, Camaro, hell even the Cadillac CTS-V, outperform Ford around the track. Era of the quarter horse is dying and Ford should create a halo car that can compete around a track.


Take what they learned from the BOSS and the Ford GT, and apply it.

The 5th Gen Camaro only came out because of the success the S197 was having.

The Z/28 is interesting to me because this is GM literally throwing all they can at that chassis to make it faster than the Boss 302, a car that they knew was going out of production, on a chassis that was getting replaced. The Nürburgring time is nice, and the only reason a Boss 302 wouldn't be able to match it is the rear end. That track is very similar to the country lanes I used to drive on back in the UK. Poor road surfaces, elevation changes and lots of turns. This is the type of road that you need an IRS on. Around a modern track, the Boss 302 would be a lot harder for the Z/28 to stay in front of.

The next Mustang is going to have GM chasing after them again, and hopefully BMW too.

That being said, I'd love to see Ford come out with a real RWD sedan that has no roots in the Aussie Falcon and a sports car that can go up against the Corvette and GTR.

We can speculate all we want.. all I know is after seeing that video a few posts up, I want a Z28. Looks, sounds, and runs like a bad bitch. Looks very planted.

I've driven the Corvette ZR1 on track, (scary, hard to control) and a shoehorn required to get in it, but truly an all American sports car.

I've driven a Camaro ZL1 and really like the ride, although heavy and limited visibility. The electronic shock damping is great.

I've driven the Cadillac and found it to be the most balanced GM car. However, a sedan that gets about 14 mpg is hard to get used to and I'd look to buy the CTS-V Coupe.

I've driven a Boss LS on track and thought this is the most ideal car performance and appearance wise put together from the factory. It just plain works. Drive it to the track, swap out to dedicated wheels/tires and just go baby go.

I believe that the Shelby Terlingua was one of the most balanced cars around a road course track that I've been in. I'd like to see Ford concentrate on a supercharged or HO V6 with suspension mods by tuners like Griggs/Cortex Racing. This is just my 2 cents as these cars were driven for about a 20 minute track session only.
