The "grille" is an attempt to graft a Mustang "look" on the sadly generic global midsize car snout that- thanks to European pedestrian impact regulations- makes so many cars look so similar. Look at a silhouette of a 2015 Mustang, a 2013 Fusion, a 2014 Mazda6, a BMW 3- or 4-series, or a Mercedes-Benz CLA. They all have that slightly droopy bull-nose and all look the same from the side. I was planning on trading up for a 2015 Mustang but the more I see it, the more I hate it. I really doubt I'll upgrade now.

Some say Ford wanted to make a statement that it's conservative (it's still largely a Mustang look), but also forward looking (considering the changes).

yes, and the "some" who say that work in marketing.

Seems it will be a hit in Europe. Ford opened the order book and within 30 seconds the first 500 Mustangs were sold and they had 9,300 more orders waiting

Could be just like the first gen sales over there.
