FIRST LOOK AT THE S550 IRS!

What's his 60 foot times? 04 cobra half shafts are not strong, but with enough power and easy launch, anyone can run 10's, even a chevy with chevy rear end.

I am perfectly confident that the stock 8.8" IRS unit will be just fine for stock BHP and crank torque; afterall, the 2015 GT will only produce 400ft-lbf max crank torque. But once you start throwing in engine mods, that could be enough to find the failure points of these components.
Chevy fans discovered that in the 6th Gen Camaros; just with bolt-on mods and tunes, they were destroying halfshafts more often than anyone would want.
Chevy took notice and even on only stock 426ft-lbf crank torque, they upgraded their IRS with a 9.1" rear and superior halfshafts in the 1LE package.
Prior to that, Chevy guys had to go to aftermarket sellers for superior halfshafts; Lingenfelter being one I can recall that did so.
I hope FoMoCo will do so similarly and offer upgraded IRS halfshafts and rear gear components (not just Torsen) in a future package. That would be great if the 2015 Performance Pack had such upgrades included.

I've seen that video... It's good to know that potential lurks under the hood.
Take note to the mods those engineers did. With all the testing and data at their disposal I think it would be smart to follow their lead on part mods.

AM also put their 2015s on the drag strip and the Performance Package ran 13s bone stock.

They too are on the move to put out some mods for the S550.
I'm very certain that with some aftermarket suspension mods to tighten up the flexing of various bushings and linkage members in the IRS, the S550 can hit 12s on bone stock engine, tune, and gears. Add tires to the mix and that 12.99 is within very easy reach.

I wonder if Ford Racing used the stock axle half shafts and how well they stood up to over 450BHP? I have confidence in the stock rear gears (pinion, rings, and possibly also the diff) because of their beefier design. Afterall, the Ford engineers call the S550 8.8in the "Super 8.8."
