When does a speedometer have to be identified as a speedometer,and why does it have to indicate "ground speed".As opposed to what? air speed,nautical speed,intergalactic speed?
I thought that the 2015 was built to have more appeal to Euro market,one that's more mature and sophisticated.
Every Mustang is built with some nonsense built into it.Be it this small detail,or a sound tube to the cabin as found on the 2014(I would think that a 5.0 would sound just fine to the driver without it),or the three fake air scopes found on my 2004.The two on the quarter panels would have been more than enough. ;-)
I don't think that Ford understands the demographic of most of the buyers.
It's closer to guys my age,62,than it is to 16 year olds.
Maybe because they were going for the whole aircraft cockpit look on this model, and sophisticated doesn't have to be stuffy and uptight, Euro's have an interesting sense of humor, at least the ones I have dealt with.
I recall reading in one of the magazines that Ford did this as a tribute to the P-51, only reading "ground speed" as opposed to "air speed" as the previous poster indicated.
Ground speed is represented by your airspeed plus or minus a tailwind/headwind essentially. There's some other factors you can calculate on an e6-B but high level that's why.
They also probably chose ground speed because it's a car. Put airspeed in there and you'll confuse people.
I love it. No, it doesn't match up 100% as we measure our airspeed in knots both in the air and across the ground, but a quick conversion will yield MPH or KM/h.
Take it for what it is... a tribute to the P-51 Mustang and something else to look at in your speedometer.
