Yeah hopefully Ford will realize they were smoking weed when the gave it a log in the rear end. Even though that log doe's handle itself very well(one of the reasons C&D crowned the Mustang king) there really isn't a replacement for IRS out back.

Highly doubtful it will be faster? Better power to weight ratio for the Mustang! Just think of it like adding 85hp/75tq. to the current model.

The average joe runs high 13's in the new one. I haven't seen one bust the 9 second barrier at the local track, even with exhaust/intake. The torque curve on the OHC motors just aren't hitting it. Maybe they'll find it with the new motor, but it's not looking good based on the prior errors on their N/A rides.

Will not be faster than nowadays stock LS1, which I happen to have.

Mustang pulled 0.92g on the skidpad vs the SS pulled 0.85. They tied for braking. C&D rates the Mustang as having better steering feel and better handling.

The Mustang is 300lbs less than the Camaro SS. Give it a 400hp engine and it's only 25hp shy of the SS and still weighs 300lbs less. Looks are subjective... but there is a new Camaro sitting out in the parking lot here at my Apt and i'm not too impressed. It looks kind of awkward actually.

Even with less power than the Camaro SS it still wins in the comparison test by C&D... imagine how bad it will spank the SS in their comparo when it gets more power :-)

Browse for more than one article....I found more boasting the Maro than the GT.

(base price / as tested)...

Camaro SS: $30,995 / $31,490

Challenger R/T: $30,945 / $38,270

Mustang GT: $28,845 / $34,330

HP and weight are not the only factors in this. Torque curve and gearing also play a part. To early to say anything yet on the Coyote motor.

lol... ALL THREE of those reviews said 1.. the mustang handled better... and 2 it was a very close comparo... The 5.0 in the mustang will put it out ahead of these cars

IRS > solid axle in the twisties....

That's flat wrong. I haven't seen a Camaro SS beat the GT in either Slalom, Skidpad or Figure 8. Not even close.

A lotus, Honda S2k, RX7, etc....also has a higher lateral g than the Camaro AND Mustang....but they still have a slower speed.

You guys are arguing about times acheived in a parking lot around cones.....it's crazy. In real world racing, as in a road course, the higher speed slalom car will win.

5.0 is going to add nothing but hype. Besides, I'm not so sure why everyone is so enthusiastic over a 400hp motor.

It will be more than just hype, 98. It will be about 75 more hp and most likely a much better torque curve. I seriously doubt that it'll get worse as far as handling, and considering the new GT already owns the SS around the curves, it should only get worse. The new Camaro is way heavier, but does a good job at holding its own at .85g, and will flat hand the current S197 its *** in a drag race, but going by the looks of this new 5.0, the GT will be returning the favor. I wouldn't get too terribly up in arms about though, you know damn well that GM is bound to answer back with something better.
The reason everyone is excited about a 400 HP motor is because it is going into a 3500 pound car, and considering that the SS is doing so well with a 425 HP motor in a 4k pound car....... you do the math.
