Default 05 GT vs. 08 Speed 3

My buddy at work just bought an 08 speed 3 and keeps talking trash and saying he would beat me. He has an intake on the way, and that's his only mod. I've talked to a couple of my friends who have an 02 GT with full bolt ons and my buddy who has an srt 4 and they both said I should kill him. How much should I actually beat him by? My mods are in the sig. He said he has 263 hp stock, not whp though. Thanks!

What kinda race? dig or roll? Ths Mazda wont do real bad from a roll losing by two or three cars. From a dig it'll lose by ALOT!

I've never actually raced but according to my dyno numbers. I should run 8s on street tires.

Unless he adds a few more bolt-ons you shouldnt have any problems, I second Bluebeast, his best bet is from a roll, but from a dig you walk him.

I raced one at the track once in my HCI 94, I beat him by a couple of car lengths....his car was modded though, it had at least an exhaust (and a bunch of guages inside so who knows what else)

They are fwd though aren't they? Its got to be a bitch to launch them

I tried one out for awhile. They are not slow, not at all. They don't run very good ETs due to the wheel hop, traction problems, and massive torque steer, but once they get going they move pretty good. They are limited in 1st and 2nd gears by the PCM, which cuts down on the torque steer and helps make the car more controllable, but 3rd thru 6th are not limited and pull hard. I put a CAI on mine and took out the secondary cat. Those two mods made the thing come alive bigtime, but I still couldn't launch to save my life. They have a motor mount that helps them launch, but since he only has CAI, you shouldn't have any problems. They can be hard to shift as well. The linkage flexes a good bit when you get into the boost, causing it to miss gears easily. One more thing, if he just got it, he probably hasn't raced it much. You have to be on top of your game shifting it due to the incredibly short gear ratios and the fact that the powerband completely falls off over 5500 RPMS. Good luck man, you should be fine.

Ya I figured with it being a turbo a roll race would be closer than a dig...He just got the car two weeks ago and he's talking mad crap! I asked him if he wanted to go and my buddy would video it from my car but he wouldn't do it. He said he'll race at the track, but he's never been there and I tried to get him to go last week and he wouldn't.

Him wanting to go to the track equals more of an advantage for you. Let us know the outcome once you have a chance to race him.

He has no chance. Intake, exhaust and an aggressive tune could have him running with your car from a roll.

Tuning is still an issue for the MS3s. Nothing really good out there for them yet. Once they get it right, they should start earning a lot more respect.
