I ran MT drs on Drag Lites on my Camaro all the time, the issue with that car was that it still did not hook on the street like it did at the track. It was a ton better than street tires though. On the Mustang I run a 17 inch Kumho on the street but I have a set of MT's on a Pony wheel that I can use at the track. I really don't care about hooking on the street anymore, the car is set up more for a road course anyways. Plus most of the little street battles are from a roll (even though I hate roll racing). The sad part is I don't really get traction until 3rd gear and only if it is not a cool night. On cool nights it blows off the tires as soon as I see 10 psi in 3rd. HOWEVER blowing past another car at 50 mph with tires smoking does tend to leave an impression.

Trust me, your car will still be plenty fast on street tires. You just aren't going to be doing 4-5k rpm drops at redlights and have to moderate the throttle some. That being said, I'm thinking about running DRs all the time (not for street racing really, I'm just sick and tired of bringing wheels to the track and changing them out, PITA. Plus once its caged I don't think I will be able to put the extra tires in the trunk).

Not everyone can launch an AWD car well, it still takes some skill.

I'm thinking of going with the M&H 275/45/18 myself.

Yah I've noticed that. What's up with all the roll racing. It's like that is all anyone does any more.

We still do races from a dig on the streets here, it's just not all that common and is almost always set up ahead of time. Roll races just kinda happen when you are out cruisin around. I don't even really consider them a race, just foolin around

most of my racing has been done at stop lights.. and i loved having my M&H 275/45/17s or whatever they are on the street.. so much better on traction.. just switched them out for some long drives i had to make.. didnt want to eat them up in 1 summer

275/50/R17 brother.

I've got my eye on the 275/45/R18 they have. Bit spendier than the ones you got though. Gotta pay to play I guess.

I'm sure that's what most of the people I've roll raced said to themselves afterwards! LOL

I need a set of wider tires and maybe a wider rim. 205-50-15s aren't cutting it. I'm looking into getting some 225-50-15 MT ET SR IIs, but I'm not sure if I have to move up to the 7 inch wide rims that they measured them on. I have a 6.5 inch, and it falls withing the approved width range, but am I losing anything? No sense in moving up on tire size if I'm still gonna have the contact patch of the 205.

It depends on what you want. Don't listen to other people running their mouth anyway.

There are good street tires out there for warm weather, like Michelin PS2's or instance. Street tires will last way longer obviously, but won't hook as well. It also depends on what kind of driving you like to do, if you really want to go through corners, drag radials aren't designed for that. REALLY good suspension and the right street tires and you can hook as well as some guys with DR's, but it's just cheaper to buy DR's.

13.20's with 2.25-2.30 60's, 40+ year old suspension sucks!
Best trap 107.11mph, we'll see what the new intake/carb setup does.
12.80 at 110.5mph NHRA DA corrected

I pretty much agree. Everything is a compromise. I thought about using DRs on the street. (I probably need them more than anyone on this forum) But chose the street tire route because I would like to autocross the car at some point. Also it's just nice to drive a car that really handles the curves. And that's not the primary purpose of DRs. If you supercharge your car you'll still be faster than 95% of everything on the street. I may get outlaunched by the guy in the EVO, Mustang, Camaro etc. but I can usally fly by them by 80. I'm sure you'd be better off in a rear drive supercharged car on the street than me.

I've never actually raced but according to my dyno numbers. I should run 8s on street tires.

I put right around 18K miles on my MT ET Street Radials *stored in winters* between the street and a few trips to the drag strip.

To be honest, I never ONCE got in a street race, so they were kind of a waste when I wasn't at the track.

I'm running on Sumicrapo's now and I love it. I can rip off 1st 2nd and not worry about throwing money down the drain. I've learned how to effectively *sort of* feather the clutch out.

Do I worry about losing to a low 14 second car even though I went 13.6's, sure, but who cares?
