Default Are 3.31's that terrible?

Since I bought an 08 GT 5MT I've been feeling like I have a "lesser" GT because of the 3.31 gear. Does it matter that much? Can I really squeak out high 13's on 3.31's bone stock?

I'd guess you should still be able to run 13's. It's going to depend more on the launch and the DA than the difference between 3.31's & 3.55's IMO.

I cant talk much of times, but fun wise. 4.10's really make the car much more exciting.

For example, your driving in town 30-35mph. Yellow light up ahead. If I remember when I had 3.31's, 2nd gear is pretty doggy at 30mph, and 1st was too agressive for traffic. With 4.10's, you are usually always near/at/in your "powerband"

I gained .3 at our dragway from 4.10's. Does that mean 4.10's are better? Not 100%.

I have seen people get 12's with a few bolt ons and tires with the stock gear

Hope that helps

Short gears a definitely more fun. The Miata I had came with like a 4.33 gear so it was always ready to jump when I mashed on the throttle.

I suspect if you are good at driving, have good weather and low elevation track with good track prep I'll bet you can still get a 13.6 out of it.. you could also have a factory freak and get a 13.4.. (somehow putting out more hp than average).

spend the $200.. get 4.10 gears.. you should be able to find someone to install them for < $300... find a good installer who has done installs on s197s before..

and it could be worse.. what did the 1996 cobra come with? 2. somethings.. can't remember.. but it was horrible.. gear swap in those was mandatory i think

wouldn't be horrible with a twin turbo setup... or supercharger.. but could it be better? yes it could be, unless your hoping to get good gas mileage and drive 45mph everywhere like they do here in va.

Black Mamba.. your car must be really slow with those 2.73s

heads,cam, headers in an ls2 vette.. i bet it's a dog...

I agree....

In town, I can start in 2nd, and go right to 5th if I want.

On the highway, the 2500RPMs is a litle high
