You can't look at the HP/torque ratings of two cars, especially two cars that have a 20 year gap between them, and tell which one is faster. They're both 15 second cars stock. A 2006+ SI only has 197 hp, and 137 lbs tq, and they can run a high 14 stock.
If you don't care, don't post. This is what this section is for.
Makes perfect sense with the SI comment, but many Fox Mustangs were knocking on the 13 second door with little modifications. The LX's ran 14.4's stock while the GT's ran high 14's, thanks in part to their weight. The sn197 has better gearing(3:31 I believe) but they weigh more and make less power and torque. A well maintained 5.0 will beat a Mustang 4.0 v6. And as for the don't care, don't post comment, this thread was ORIGINALLY posted up in the 5.0 TECH section and then Moved here. I made my first comment when it was in the 5.0 section, because real people actually have real problems with their cars and this "newer" member comes in and spits out which one is faster thread. If he had read the rules and posted in the 5.0 talk section my answer would not have been as brash. And 99GTvert, I have nothing against you man, but chill out. It's just a forum.

Ahh, gotcha. I didn't realize your post was pre-move, lol!
You're exactly right about the 5.0. It doesn't take much at all ($$ or parts) to open those things up. I think that has a lot to do with why they are still a popular car years later.

I apologize for coming off rude earlier, but man, some people can really just get on my nerves when it comes to posting before reading the forum rules. I can only feel for the moderators! LOL! But yeah, the 5.0's are pretty potent runners(not the 94-95 too much), but the Fox's. I have many articles from the early 90's where a LX runs 13.8's@98 with nothing more than bumped timing, Flow's, K&N and sticky tires. Now if an s197 can duplicate these times with similar "mods" then fine, I'll pick the 4.0 to be the faster car. And with the pocket rocket crowd, their main advantage is their weight and very linear powerband's. I am sure you can attest since you have an SI, if I am not mistaken?

Had an 08 SI sedan, but I ditched it for the GT. The super low gearing is what gets those SIs moving, but the power band doesn't come around until 6k rpms, and hits the rev limiter at 8500, so its one of those cars that you have to be on your toes to drive. The gears are close ratio though, so once you get in the power, its easy to stay there (but its a mighty small window to stay in). Its a lot like the 4.0 S197 though, whereas mods don't do jack for them. What you buy is what you get unless you've got some serious loot to sink into them (FI, etc). You can gear a 4.0, tune it, etc, but its not going to respond anything like the 5.0 will/does.
