My car still isn't fast as hell, but without at least a gear swap that AOD fox is going to be relatively slow. Like thumpin said the AOD has this weird thing with going right to third, or shifting out of 2nd way too soon. A set of 4.10s would remedy your situation and make your car a decent amount faster. Just trying to help my foxbody brother out.

thats funny because i have brand new 4.10 ford racing gears sitting in my garage for a while but i havent went to go install them because they are charging me 300 dollars to change the gears.
300 isn't too bad, but I'm sure you can find it cheaper. Do you have any shops that work on off road trucks in your area? They do gear swaps all the time and will probably charge less than most places. Those 4.10s will make it feel like your car is twice as fast, at least for the first few days LOL.

Who knows? I'd say its six of one, half dozen the other. They are both probably making similar power, maybe a bit more in the '92. The '98 might weigh a little more but the fact that the '92's an auto cancels that out.
If a gear set is setup properly it should last damn near forever, like Blk5.0 said, when they lift the trucks they swap out the gears to offset the tires, or just to provide a better gear ratio while in 4wd. A shop like that does two swaps per vehicle, so the guys doing them probably have a ton of experiance, and any shop worth their salt is gunna do a gear swap on a truck with 33" tires or better. To them it's just another day at work doing a gear swap so it's nothing to them really. The local shop quoted me $125 to install if I brought them the gear set and the install kit.
