That could be part of the issue. I just think the Camaro is a more visually exciting car. The majority of buyers could car less about the fastest 1/4 mile or 0-60 time. I talk about that stuff with my coworkers and most of them just look at me funny.

Right, no doubt... but I'm thinking the GT500 is supposed to be targeted toward the same crowd that the 03-04 Cobra was, within reach of someone willing to fork out $600 per month for a new car that is far superior over the GT, hence justifying the extra cost. Now you're looking at $600 per month (or more) for a GT, and a $50,000 (more for this new one) loan for a GT500. I just wish they would offer something above a GT for under $45k new. They are seriously getting into Corvette territory with the price tag... not what Mustang has been all about for decades.

Talking about new price tags, not used.

Did you have to fight them for that price?

IMO, the Boss is to the Mach as the GT500 is to the Cobra. Only difference is the damn MSRP is up $10k over the Mach for the Boss and the GT500 is almost $20k over the 03-04 Cobra's MSRP. I think the GT500 should be the $36k car, and the GT should be the $25k car, and the V6 should be the $18-20k car.... jmo, and its off topic, so back to discussing the new GT500

I wonder how this things gonna hook on the street..........650 is a ton, not that it would be smart but I just can't see it hooking that well without DR's.

Base price?

I disagree, while the new motor is a huge improvement, its not a $15,000 improvement. Ford will probably jack up the price a few thousand dollars but that's it. Remember just a couple years ago, this exact situation played itself out. Chevy came out with the new 426hp 6.2L Camaro SS and Ford was still running a 315hp 4.6L in the GT that was priced just $2,000 less. News came out that Ford was going to make a 400hp+ 5.0L Mustang and everyone said "I bet it will cost a fortune." Well Ford raised the horsepower to 412hp but only raised the cost of the car $1,000 and undercut the SS by $1,000. I think Ford will do the same thing here. In my opinion the GT500 will not be priced any higher than the ZL1, which is starting at $54,000. I'd guess the GT500 will be in the $53,000 - $54,000 range base price. At that price its a steal.

Problem is Stone, you're locked into 2003 pricing. It's a decade later and there has been a lot of inflation since then. A dollar is not worth what it was worth then. Car prices across the board are much higher. As it stands, Ford has done an awesome job pricing the current Mustang. I got a 305hp Mustang that gets 25mpg on my commute for $20,300 brand new! Ten years ago I would have got a 2v GT for $24,000 and been slower, had a crappier interior and gotten poorer fuel economy.

I think Ford has the pricing figured out pretty damn well if you ask me. They have a great performing car for everyone's budget. Not only that but at every price point, it kicks the butt of other performance cars that it competes with.

$23,000 = 305hp V6
$30,000 = 420hp GT (2013 HP number)
$43,000 = 444hp Boss 302
$54,000 (est.) = 650hp GT500

This... coworker has a 2011 Camaro SS and if I start poking him about his car being slow he can only counter with 'I have 426hp'... This generation Camaro owner is nothing like the last.

It really doesn't matter if the MSRP comes in at $53K because you won't be able to buy one for that!! The dealerships will have the price marked up a minimum of $5K and several will want $10K to $15K over sticker, especially when they first come out.

It will be like 2007 all over again when the new 500 HP GT500 came out and the dealers were gouging everyone!

This is true but Ford has nothing to do with that. It's all supply and demand, if the market is willing to pay that much for the car, so be it. If you want one but don't want to pay a mark up, just wait a year. Prices will come down to sticker or less.
