I dont know what it'll do this year but I expect high 12s on motor and street tires. Down the road I expect Low 12s motor & slicks, high 10 low 11s spray. Stone will have bought 4 new cars by the time this car is finished! I went with the stage one cam because trick flow pretty much says it's a bolt in and go cam. I'm not the greatest mechanic and didn't want to push my luck with clearance issues but a custom cam would be real cool down the line. Late model has a 363 short block I have my eye on also.

http://www.fordstrokers.com/ Highly respected around here. Also, you should join sbftech before you buy anything else. The amount of that knowledge on that site is 10x what it is on here, although most everyone on there is an asshat.

Thanks for the link. I'm a couple years away from a new engine. Wanna do the tranny and rear first. Also wanna work on the suspension.

good idea doing the other parts first. when you do the trans, if you wanna keep o/d i'd buy a used 4r70w and throw the guts into your trans, with some better clutch packs, bands, and some valve body work and it'll handle ~600 for pretty cheap.

Made some good progress this week. Got everything off. Now I'm waiting on the headers to show up so I can install them while the heads are still off the car. The cylinder bores look great. No carbon on the pistons. But the lifter valley had an inch of black dirt in it. What a mess. Suppose the oil didn't get changed enough by the previous owner. Heres a pic of how she sits now.

You should find a similar amount of gunk in your oil pan.
I would highly, HIGHLY recommend that you drop the oil pan and clean everything up as well. I would throw in a new oil pump too if it were my car, the old pump has obviously had a lot of gunk go through it.

The gunk can come loose in globs and clog up your oil pickup, then your engine dies a quick, painful & noisy death.

It is work, but an oil pan gasket is pretty cheap......

PS; you are loosening up a lot of gunk in the lifter valley, all this loose stuff has to go through your oil pump before it can be caught by the oil filter, so clean everything well. You don't want that crud going through your oil pump.
Use quality oil and change it fairly soon after the engine work, I usually changed the first oil at 500 miles after a tear-down to catch anything that was loosened up by the work. Cheap insurance.

Very good advice. I spent the afternoon doing the very things you just mentioned. And your correct. Oil pan was loaded with crap. Cleaned the lifter valley before I dropped the pan so hopefully thats the end of the black goo! Next job is to crank it over to TDC on #1 and pull the old cam.

Heres the lifter valley today. Still have to take the oil pan to work and hit it with the parts washer.

I dont know how the car was still running. The drain holes in the lifter valley were covered and the crap in the pan was right against the oil pump suction.

I don't either....good chance it could've crapped the oil pump and left you stranded at any second. Good thing you got in there and started this new project!

man that thing was NASTY! glad to see you're taking the time to do it right, a lot of people would see that and clean the valley but never touch the pan. What kind of headers did you get?
