Lol very easy to miss a gear, when you have adrenaline pumping it's very easy to get off the clutch quickly or to throw the shifter in the wrong spot

...When you have faster lap times than others in the same or similar cars.

Same goes for roll racing an automatic. If you dont know where to be in your RPM and preselect, your done before you start.
Yea, I was going to say....people always have this impression that all you do is hit the gas and run good times and thats just not the case.

Well other than the launch it's pretty much the case.

Disagree with you Blue...

other than manually shifting, all the other details remain the same regarding getting a good ET.

Explain? The launch is a matter of stall , suspension and good tires with an auto. Once you figure out what RPM to leave at & your timing on releasing the brake at the light drop you have it nailed. A trans brake makes it even simplier. There is no missed shifts with an auto. Even if you want to shift your auto you will never miss a gear with a proper rachet shifter with a reverse lockout.

Well, besides the whole pre stage do's and don'ts and of course the extensive launching process... Once I've launched the car, sure it will shift itself for the most part, but making sure it stays in the groove past the 300' mark, flying a perfectly straight line past the 1/4, (in my case having to lift at 6500-6600 RPM so it will even shift into 3rd), all plays into it. The more power you make, the more difficult it becomes because the car wants to pull, spin half track, kick out on shifts, etc, etc. Mine is pretty easy at this point (to me, lots of auto LS1s are running a good bit slower than me with more mods/tires for whatever reasons), but the procharged Z28 I had was a beast to get down the track. As soon as the converter locked up, she wanted to show her *** and get sideways, so it was a constant battle from the launch all the way to the end of the 1/4. I was eventually able to pull good ETs with it, but not before I embarrassed myself quite a few times, getting sideways at the 1/8th, etc. Basically, my point is this...other than the gear banging part, ALL of the other rules still apply. Not really talking about stock 04 automatic GTOs Vs a manual LS1, but modded cars making relatively good power and having traction issues past the launch.

I guess so. I've always felt the more power you make the better off you are with an auto. Glad to hear your transmission isn't smoked.

I agree with you on that part. Autos can't be beat when it comes to bigger power. Its definitely easier with an auto, no argument there, I'm just saying its not exactly flawless without some effort.

Me too, I was afraid it was a done deal when it started riding the RPM on the 2-3 shift. Turns out to be a fairly common problem in these POS trannys.
