No..its actually the exact opposite. They make max TQ at 2k RPM and their heads don't flow for crap up top (at least not stock). They do work down low.

I think its a drivers race to 60 mph, but after that if you don't walk away I'd be shocked.

He could easily mod that LT1 and have a quick car though.

This!!! Those things are monsters down low.

Is the lt1 a auto or stick, can the guy drive and what gears are in it?? If its geared and the guy has the driver mod it's your race to loose. If the lt1 had a tune as well I would say he would win. Either way should be a damn good run and I'd love to hear the results.

But for reference a guy know has a 94 a4 lt1 camaro mods: mid length headers catless y-pipe cai ported tb and maf udp and 1.6 rockers. Still had the 3.23 gears it went a 8.34@83 on street tires in the 1/8 mile.

This x10000.

Was always a PITA to get traction in my LT1 off the line... took some work to the heads before it had any kind of top end.

I had a couple LT1 cars, a 96 Z28 and I currently have a 94 vette LT1. The Z28 was a six speed and in IMO the car had no low end grunt, it loved the high revs and really pulled in the big end but, out of the hole it was lazy, by the end of 2nd gear and into 3rd gear it would pull hard. In completely stock form it usually ran 13.6/13.7 1/4 mile times. For some reason the Vette seems better, probably because it's a lighter car. Stock, the car ran a 13.33. I did a lot of mods to this car, FX286 Comp Cam, LS1 Bee Hive Springs, Lunati Voodoo 1.6 Rockers, Port and Polished heads, MSD opti-spark distributor, BBK 58mm TB, Accel 37lb injectors, Aeromotive FR, Racetronix high flow fuel pump, Garnnetti high flow MAF, SLP CAI, PCM For Less mail order tune, Hooker Super Comp Hooker headers, Borla Exhaust and the stock 3.42 gears, when I get some extra money I'm gonna install another Danna with 4.11 gears....the last item on the build list. This car runs 12.3s on stock tires and the lousy 3.42 gears....still, the low end torque isn't there, a characteristic of the LT1....it F*CKIN pulls big time in the big end....the car is scary on the highway, 80mph to 150mph happens in a matter of seconds! Anyways, the LT1 is a good motor and loves to rev....IMHO, The LT1 vs 4.6 3V in a race will be won on the launch....good luck!

No low end grunt? I'm guessing you never drove the LS1 and LT1 back to back. lol

Bone Stock LT1 Dyno (Note peak torque occuring in the 2200 range and horsepower trailing off early) I can't say I've ever heard an LT1 described the way you just did. lol

the LS1 is a different motor, different block, different heads, different ignition system and it's also a better motor then a LT1...IMO. The LS1 definitely feels more torquey!!

I'm not going by dyno sheets, going by personal experience. The LT1 goes great out of the hole....if it has gears, otherwise IMHO, it's weak. The 4.6 3V isn't much better in the low end, but it goes good enough for me as does the LT1s. The Z mentioned by the OP is a 95 Z28 and it has the LT1, the LS1 came out in 98, in F body cars and I think the vette got a LS motor in 97.

Yeah... Going to have to disagree 200000000% on that one. The LS1 feels like a complete turd compared to an LT1 in the torque department. Owned an LT1 car (1995 Z28) for 5 years (from stock to my CC306 setup with ported heads).... 6 years now in the LS1 (2001 Z28). A stock LT1 still feels like a beast compared to my LS1.

My buddy's 2000 LS1 TA used to spank my 96 Z28 by about 2 car lengths....every time....back in the day. anyways, it's all subjective to personal experience.

Yeah performance aspect wasn't really at question here... my LT1 bone stock went 14.1 @ 97mph vs 13.1 @ 108mph from my ls1 bone stock. The LT1 still felt stronger.. .which is of course subjective.
