Default supra vs cobra

saw this vid about 6 years ago when i was in high school, just came across it now. this supra is insane. cobra was reported to have 500+ hp, not sure if it was crank or whp. not sure what the supra had, i'm guessing up around 650+ whp because it pulled hard. i enjoy hearing these two cars go at it, thought i'd post it for everybody else to watch. gets crazy at 1:42

cool video, lol.

Supars are dyno queens/ highway monsters so that doesnt surprise me at all.

Take it to the 1/4 mile and I bet the cobra wins every time.

I would bet that supra make 650-750 rwhp.

They really arent that fast for the huge power numbers they make since the power bands are typically extremely small and unusable unless at huge speeds.

Both are motors built for boost. Just a matter of who is willing to spend more on which car wins that race.

the "dyno queens" are the guys who are trying their hardest to spool 106's with stock displacement. i've seen a 680whp Supra rip the ever living sh*t out of a 712whp cammed C6Z from a 10 roll. both on radials too. the Supra runs low 9's btw, the Z is right there with it.

Thats cool, but that represents like .0001% of the supra population that actually uses the power they make....and I guarantee that supra was auto.

Ive driven supras with a little 67 mm on it and been absolutely amazed at how bad the lag was.....of course it doesnt help that im used to a supercharged mustang that had power instantly but my point is those cars have huge amounts of lag with 67/76mm turbos even and generally they are just dog **** anywhere other than a highway roll.

Its not just the guys with huge turbos that are dyno queens, those cars have small, peaky powerbands which is why they struggle to make use of the power in situations other than high speed roll races.

Don't get me wrong, you can make a supra retarded fast if you get it to use the power right, an auto seems to be the best solution to keep in boost.

that's just it, his car is a 6-speed still. anti-lag is a godsend on them though. and he can still use it on a roll too. builds a good solid 10-12psi on the anti-lag. he has a slightly odd setup though, at least it's not the norm in the Supra community (way more common with diesel's). he's still running twins, but it's a compound setup, not a paralleled setup like most twins are. iirc it was a T3/T4 (not certain on that part) feeding a 76mm (positive on that one, i have the same PT76 on my truck). it lights off pretty quick but still has top end.

Ohh, I see. Sounds like he actually knows what he is doing and didnt just put a big single on it and make a highway roll racer. lol
