Hey guys, just picked up my 2012 mustang gt automatic and let me just say, this car is awesome! Even bone stock, it feels every but as fast as my bolt-on GTO.

I've only had it for 3 days and already have a race lined up with a buddy of mine. He has a bone stock 5.0 with manual transmission and 3.31 gears. We are definitely going to line them up from a roll, but my question is whether I should bet on this. Who do you think would win from a roll and how close would it be?

I've never seen any of the car mags do an instrumented tests with the auto transmission. They always test the Brembo pkg which is manual with 3.73s. I do know the Camaro SS with an auto is just as fast as the manual but for some reason it seems like I've seen video somewhere where a stock Mustang stick was a little quicker than the auto.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm trying to figure out. I know my GTO auto was way slower than the manual, and I'm wondering if that's the case for the 5.0 I hope not. I was hoping they were pretty even from a roll.

Autos aren't what they used to be. My money is on the auto, dig or roll.

Found it, automatic is quite a bit slower, motorweek video of 2013 5.0 auto....0-60 5.1, 1/4 13.5, that's quite a bit off from the 2011 & up manuals mid 4 sec 0-60 and high 12 sec 1/4 mile time tests I've seen. You may wanna get you a tune before the race.

I think it's fun but yeah probably not as fun as a manual. But back to topic, from a roll- auto or manual 5.0?

I feel the stick will be faster... HOWEVER, if you're friend is not a great shifter/driver then you'd win.

Brembo package was available with manuals only in '11 and '12. Brembo stick cars come stock with 3.31 gears, the 3.55 and 373 are optional. In '13 you can get the Brembo package on the automatics too. All the automatics come with 3.15 gears.

The stock 10+ Camaro SS automatics are near as fast as the stck cars! The autos have the 400 HP L99 and the stick cars have the 426 HP LS3.

OP, I think the auto car will win the roll race and if you do a dig will win that race too.

I know a guy in PA that just ran a 12.266 @ 115.34 in his bone stock automatic 2013 GT on the stock 235/50/18 Pirelli's and no weight reduction. Just goes to show you what a properly driven automatic 5.0 is capable of in excellent DA on a well preped track.
