OK, I'm going to pull the trigger on new tires finally. I know these only have 9k miles on them, but they sat out in the sun for two years and have spiderweb cracks in them AND as y'all know.....friggin no back traction. So, after much net research and talking to lots of people I have about decided on Nittos with Invos for the front (might step up from 255/20 to 275/20) and am looking at the NT01 for the front. The NT01 is a road track tire as opposed to the NT05R which is a true drag radial. You wouldn't believe all of the opinions with many of them very different. I was looking at the Toyo R888, but don't think the 315/20 will fit, the Nitto in a 315/20 is supposed to run small. The other option is to drop from a 295 to a 285 since there are no sizes in between.

Yes, I know this should be TEK.......butI trust your opinions and think the guys in TEK are a bunch of dipsticks. Besides......it's been slow in here and it's something to talk/argue about :)

I only know slicks and drag radials. But it looks like the tires you have in mind have the same tread wear rating as the 555Rs that I ran on the Camaro

NT01R is the same compound as a 555R drag radial. The difference between the two is in the sidewall. NT01R is a track tire with an extra stiff wall for cornering, vs the 555R'S obvious softer wall for straight line traction. You will hook way better, but don't expect those nt01 tires to blow your mind or anything at the drag strip. I would stick with the 555R if you want to hook alright, run those NTs up front.

LOL......I want my cake and eat it too dammitall. From all the reading and research it really looks like one tire won't do both well, although, I suspect the NTO1 will be a hell of a lot better than most if I want a dual purpose tire.

NT01 is still a badass tire! You got a lot of power to plant though, so anything short of an MT Street is going to be what it is, lol.

Yeah with that beast of a car the only chance you have of actually hooking up on the street or strip would be an et street.

But of all the choices you said I think the 285 r888 would be the best tire. From all the cobra guys who get those they never have anything bad to say except for maybe price. It's the best all around tire that you can turn aggressively with, get pretty good traction, and if you get caught in the rain it wont be too white knuckle. I hardly ever see anyone run nt01's, and if I do see a friend with them, they dont buy them again. I take that for what it's worth. Maybe the nt05's, i've seen those much more but still am in love with my toyo tq's over the 555r's. However I see they dont make the tq in a 20 but I've heard the r888 is even better than that one.

Yeah, the R888 was my first choice. I need to get to a tire place to see if the 315 will fit, if not the 285 might be a better choice. Of course, then the question would be what fronts with a Toyo.

are you trying to fit them on factory wheels? I know the bodies themselves should be able to clear them easy. We've put a couple sets of 305 et streets on some 13-14 gt500's.

Nope they are friggin high dollar Axis 20". Damn things cost 1500 apiece. I have to find the exact size from the builder. The fronts are 9", but not sure exactly what the backs are. I suspect the smart thing to do would be to buy some cheap 18" for the back and put on DRs for the track and get the R888s and just go with the 285s for the street and road course.

That gets my vote. That way your using the right tool for the job.
