Default Lund ngauge - do I really need one?

Just talked to a local tuner. I have a 2016 gt with the roush supercharger installed by Ford. I wanted to get a little extra by going with a custom tune and part of the bill is 450 of this Lund ngauge. Do I really need one? Isn't this a tool that the shop should have without the need to sell me one? Please get me out of my ignorance.

Right, but isn't this a tool my local tuner should have? What I don't understand is why do I have to buy it? Can't they just use theirs? I really don't see myself using this enough to justify the purchase. I would much rather get an open air filter.

when most tuners tune your car, they write the tune and put it on a handheld tuner, this allows you to keep the factory calibration in the tuner, and also allows the tuner to adjust the tune he wrote at a later date as it is installed in the hand held unit. the guage you asked about is like a tuner, but is also a display that can show you some engine data live, pretty pointless as a feature, so i would stick with the handheld unit.

Great, thanks. I'll go for the nGauge then.

I use the SCT X4 on my 2015. Very user friendly. I'm using the Lund tune also. Mainly to tune the automatic transmission after a high stall converter.
