Power steering pump pulley removal
I'm trying to remove the pulley so I can get to the bolts to take the pump off, and I rented one of these pulley removers from the parts store. Should the "button" on the end of the center screw fit INTO the hole In the center of the pulley, or should it just be pressed against the outside?

Ok, I got all of that worked out. But I got the new pump on the and the pulley reinstalled, fluid added and all that jazz. I turn the car on and the brand new pump sounds worse than the old one did. any suggests as to why other than the possibility that it's a bad pump?

That was the first thing I did. Turned the car on and turned the wheel to both extremes at least a dozen times hoping it would go away but it didn't. I also stove it for an hour to and from work but it was still there at the end of the day.

I believe the actually power steering pump itself has a sticker on it that says something like 30 days or 500 miles and it should calm. I had the same problem with mine so i waited it out and it worked..... now its back to the wonderful ford ps noise. (i shouldnt have wasted 60 bucks just for the noise).

In really going it goes away, it sounds horrible. I think it's actually worse than the original pump. But I changed mine partially because it was leaking, so I got at least half of my problem fixed.

After driving the car around a while, with it at normal operating temps, park the car and let the motor idle for a minute or two. Then pull the power steering fluid reservoir cap and look for air bubbles. If you see any air bubbles then you have a leak in the return (low pressure) side of the power steering system. Good luck...
