Default shifter cable gone bad

i have a 99 stang v6, and the shifter cable is bad. autozone, advanced auto,napa. i have looked everywhere. they dont have one. any suggestions

um maybe its cuz they dont have shifter cables, the shifter goes directly into the tranny.

auto tranny, ok, well its some type of cable that changes the gears on the transmision. i guess i just dont know what its called then. cause my car wouldnt shift, and i took it off and its f****d

my bad, i was automatically thinking 5spd. call a ford dealer to find out the name then go searching again. i know nothing of autos, since ill never own one

Its called either a detent cable or tranny kickdown cable. I don't think mustangs have it?? It's called like an auto tranny selector and if you look it up it's the actual piece at the bottom of the auto lever or something like that.

autozone won't have it, my cable broke and they said they don't carry it the dealership might not have it in stock, they didn't where i live, cost about 30 dollars. If you have the right tools you should be able to change it yourself. But it shouldn't cost to much to to get it fixed at a shop.

When I took my 97 out of storage this year I could not get it out of park. I had to replace mine and it's a Ford part and not cheap.
