RE: 98 3.8L horsepower?? h'much?
ok then ... whats the technical differences in the motors ...
--- &/or---
what can i do to bring it up to speed. i just bot a 98 3.8L, and to the best of my knowledge [ i havent picked it up yet, bad weekend for financial matters ] it has a k&n induction system, unknown aftermarket dual pipes. i think it MAY have a chip installed [as if i even knew how to tell]. the guy who had it b4 seems to have known what he was doin with the car, it was well taken care of, cosmetically at least.
i'd like to hit 225hp before i start thinking about a supercharger, so i prolly have to look at engine kits as well. i know v6's can hit well over 265hp.
btw 172k miles, natural.

RE: 98 3.8L horsepower?? h'much?
look up www.rpm-mustangs.com
they have heads, cams, pistons, rods, intakes and many other goodies for the 3.8.
for a great chip go to www.velocitymustangperformance.com justin at VMP is awsome at custom burning a chip for a specific setup
also check out the following sites:
www.moranav6racing.com
www.supersixmotorsports.com
you will find all you need to get more out of the stang
i would replace the stock gears right off the bat with 3.73's or 4.10's with a Ford T-lok or Auburn Differential and a richmond gear install kit
you can get a rear girdle from
http://www.taperformance.com/rearend.htm
part# TA 1805
this will help the 7.5 rear hold more power and the Auburn differential is more expensive but much stronger than the Ford unit
good luck
you can also ask the guy's at www.3.8mustang.com or www.v6power.net for guidance

splitport swap is a head and intake swap from a 99+ 3.8L stang
the splitports flow better thus adding power.
to do the swap you need a modified fuel rail made for the swap
ported single port (up to 1998) heads and intakes can flow enough for serious power and are close to ported splitports in flow.
both are good setups but i'd stick with the stock heads and intakes but ported from RPM mustangs
here is a pic of my 98 3.8's engine bay
you can see the ATI procharger mounted low in front of the engine

keep in mind that there are two ways of rating hp..... there is hp at the flywheel (HP)and also at the rear wheels (RWHP)
If memory serves, yours had 178 HP / 148 RWHP.
