150 HP @ 4,000 rpm and 215 ft lb @ 2,750 rpm
(according to motortrend)
and i no that MR2 cant do a half way decent burnout
we tried to and he would wind it up to 6,000 and go
but it would iether die or fall to 1 or 2 then not pull hard until 4 grand
not even a sqeak from the tires
i tried to do it in mine and it broke them( or 1)loose @ 2,000 held it for a sec then took off.
ill get a buddy to help ne out with timming and figure out how to get the best launch.

If you had a 5 speed I would say you will take him. If he's that bad at a clutch then you still will probably get em. I dunno tho', I hate automatic fords, I will never own an auto, I flat out hate em. That's just me tho', some folks like auto's. 150hp is exactly right and I have a 1995 v6 5 speed and I win auto's all the time. Even the new ones. Well, not the newest ones with over 200 hp but I'm a great driver and usually win because of that. I'll tell you from experience, I romp auto's or converts all the time. Especially convert autos, I'll flat out walk away from them and that's with a 12" MTX sub box in the rear! With the 5 speed, i don't know about the auto's, I wouldn't shift it passed 4k. I have shifted it at 4500 but the torque falls flat on it's a$$ after 4k. Keep them rpm's up and shift at 4k with his lame double clutching, you'll WIN! If he pops another clutch, you definitely win. LoL. Enjoy!

doesn't apply to you.

however you can do the D-2 shift.
floor it in drive off the line and just before the auto shifts into second from first, manually pull the shifter back into second from drive and run it to 5000 rpm's then pop it back into D.

this is a built in " shift kit" from ford. the ECU has a program in it to shift the 4R70W faster and firmer on the 1-2 shift if you hammer it in drive off the line and pull it back into 2nd from D right before it's ready to shift itself. it takes alittle practice to get it right but try it. you will see the difference and should knock .1 off your time

Hope U win man, GO FORD! Ok, enough of being a cheerleader, practice your launch which will be the most important. I take it your going for the arm drop approach? Watch the shoulders, you will have a slight advantage if you get off the line well and manually shift the auto. If you hit second gear right with a good launch, it's a done deal! Enjoy!

if you lose by just alittle bet him that if he adds 1000 lbs to his car it will be aot different.

run what you brung is soooo played out

ask him if he wants a fair weighed race??

your stang goes 3300lbs with you in it. his MR2 probably 2500lbs. not really an even race.

kinda like a DC 9 vs an F18. no comparison weight wise

Launch is most important. Practice loading up the converter (this is done by putting it in drive and holding the brake pedal down and flooring it, without spinning the wheels as that costs you speed). Double clutching is the act of shifting by leaving the throttle mostly open, and then "double clutching", hit the clutch and pull it out of gear, release the clutch in neutral, then hit the clutch again to allow it to slip into gear seamlessly, this is done by many transport truck drivers due to the transmission design in big rigs. The other way to race shift a manual trans, is to hold the engine wide open and hit the clutch and slam it into the next gear, works great until one misses his gear[:@]. This does not work in Toyota's, I know, I blew 2 trans' practicing in high school. Practice manually shifting your mustang. Practice this, to feel for the best spots to shift. Higher rpm's aren't always the best answer as horsepower and torque are curves and do drop off at higher rpms. Practice safely, race safely, and live to tell the story. If there is a local drag track, look into open race night. This is where street cars are brought in to race in a controlled manner, and the cops can't say anything about it!! We all want to hear you won the race (being the one in the ford and all), but don't want to read an obituary. Good Luck and have fun!!!
